Omeptril -D

Omeptril -D

Product Description

OMEPTRIL-D
Composition: Omeprazole 20 mg + Domperidone 10 mg

Family:
Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) + Dopamine D₂ Receptor Antagonist / Prokinetic Agent.

Indications:
Omeptril-D is indicated for the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) associated with acid reflux, heartburn, and regurgitation. It may be used in selected patients with reflux symptoms accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or delayed gastric emptying, when treatment with both components is clinically appropriate. Omeprazole reduces gastric acid secretion, while domperidone supports upper gastrointestinal motility and may help relieve nausea and vomiting.

Clinical Benefit:
Omeptril-D combines the acid-suppressing action of omeprazole with the prokinetic and antiemetic properties of domperidone. Omeprazole inhibits the gastric proton pump (H⁺/K⁺-ATPase) in parietal cells, thereby reducing gastric acid production and helping control acid-related symptoms. Domperidone blocks peripheral dopamine D₂ receptors, enhances coordinated upper gastrointestinal motility, and promotes gastric emptying. This complementary mechanism may improve symptom control in appropriately selected patients with reflux and associated gastrointestinal motility symptoms.

Mechanism of Action:
Omeprazole suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme system in gastric parietal cells. Domperidone acts primarily through peripheral dopamine D₂ receptor antagonism, facilitating gastric motility and providing antiemetic effects. Together, these agents target gastric acid-related symptoms and selected motility-associated complaints through distinct pharmacological mechanisms.

Dosage and Administration:
Each dosage unit contains Omeprazole 20 mg and Domperidone 10 mg. The dose and duration should be determined by the prescribing healthcare professional according to the patient's condition, age, response to treatment, and relevant risk factors. Use the lowest effective dose of domperidone for the shortest possible duration. The product should be taken according to its approved prescribing information.

Target Patients:
Adults with acid reflux or related upper gastrointestinal symptoms accompanied by nausea or other motility-associated complaints, when the combination is considered appropriate by a healthcare professional.

Precautions:
Domperidone is associated with an increased risk of QT prolongation, serious ventricular arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death, particularly in patients with cardiac disease, electrolyte disturbances, or concomitant use of QT-prolonging medicines or potent CYP3A4 inhibitors. It should be used only when indicated and in accordance with local prescribing restrictions. Omeprazole may affect the absorption of certain medicines and can interact with drugs such as clopidogrel. Medical review is recommended for persistent symptoms, gastrointestinal bleeding, difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, or recurrent vomiting.

Drug Interactions:
Potential interactions include medicines that prolong the QT interval, potent CYP3A4 inhibitors, and other medicines that affect domperidone exposure. Omeprazole may interact with clopidogrel and certain medicines whose absorption depends on gastric acidity. A healthcare professional should review the patient's medication list before treatment.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation:
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be considered only after an individualized medical assessment of the potential benefits and risks. The combination should not be used without professional advice.

Storage:
Store according to the manufacturer's instructions and the product packaging.
