IZOMED DSR
Family:
Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) + Dopamine D₂ Receptor Antagonist / Prokinetic Agent.
Indications:
IZOMED DSR is intended for the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and acid-related upper gastrointestinal disorders when accompanied by symptoms such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, nausea, or delayed gastric emptying. Treatment should be selected according to the patient's clinical condition and the approved product information.
Clinical Benefit:
IZOMED DSR combines the potent acid-suppressing activity of esomeprazole with the prokinetic and antiemetic properties of domperidone. This complementary approach may help reduce gastric acid-related symptoms and improve associated nausea or upper gastrointestinal motility symptoms in appropriately selected patients.
Mechanism of Action:
Esomeprazole inhibits the gastric hydrogen-potassium ATPase (H⁺/K⁺-ATPase) enzyme system in parietal cells, reducing gastric acid secretion. Domperidone acts primarily as a peripheral dopamine D₂ receptor antagonist, promoting upper gastrointestinal motility and providing antiemetic effects.
Dosage and Administration:
Each dosage unit contains Esomeprazole 40 mg and Domperidone 30 mg, subject to confirmation of the actual formulation. Dosage and duration must be determined by a qualified healthcare professional according to the approved product information. Domperidone should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration.
Precautions:
Domperidone may increase the risk of QT prolongation, serious cardiac arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death. Particular caution is required in patients with cardiac disease, electrolyte disturbances, or concomitant use of medicines that prolong the QT interval or inhibit CYP3A4. Esomeprazole may interact with certain medicines, including clopidogrel. Medical assessment is recommended before use.
Drug Interactions:
Potential interactions include QT-prolonging medicines, potent CYP3A4 inhibitors, and medicines whose absorption depends on gastric acidity. A healthcare professional should review concomitant medications before treatment.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation:
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be considered only after an individualized assessment by a healthcare professional.
